Many young people in rural Uttar Pradesh have the ability and the ambition to work. What they often lack is a direct link to employers. To close this gap, RIT Foundation, led by its founder Anurag Trivedi, has organised a series of Rozgar Melas in the Bhagwant Nagar region of Unnao district. The fairs bring recruiters to the youth, so that young people do not have to travel far to find opportunities.
The series began with a two-day Vishal Rozgar Mela at Mohan Resort, Raithana, Lalkuan, Unnao. Before the event, vacancies were announced across five companies:
Tata Motors, Pune
Tata Electronics
Cape Electric
Belrise
Dhoot Transmission
The second fair was a two-day event held at the Nav Chetna Karyalay in Bighapur, Unnao. Around 500 youth were placed. At the event, the organisers announced that more fairs would follow, so that more young people in the region could find work.
The third fair was held at the Navchetna Sewa Sankalp Karyalay, Kainchi Mod, Bighapur. More than 400 youth received employment opportunities, with selections made by Tata, Tata Communications and Flipkart.
The fourth fair was a two-day event at Kainchi Mod, Bighapur. More than 150 youth were selected by companies including Tata, MRF and Red Tape.
Across four Rozgar Melas in just over two months, more than 2,000 young people have been placed in jobs.
First Rozgar Mela (22-23 August)
Second Rozgar Mela (28-29 September)
Third Vishal Rozgar Mela (8 October)
Fourth Rozgar Mela (23-24 October)
Each fair has widened the range of employers and the range of qualifications it can serve.
The programme goes beyond a one-day event. Each stage is designed to take a candidate from registration to a confirmed job.
Registration: Young people register for employment, with the support of local coordinators.
Direct interviews: Representatives of reputed companies interview candidates in person, so selection happens on the spot.
Job offer letters: Selected candidates receive their offer letters at the venue.
Onboarding support: Documentation and onboarding are completed with the candidates’ help.
Travel arrangements: Train tickets are provided so that selected youth can reach their workplace without difficulty.
For the families involved, the most meaningful moment is often the departure. Selected youth have left Unnao Railway Station for Tata Motors in Pune, and a group of 15 was sent off from Govindpuri Station, Kanpur, for a company in Hyderabad. Another batch of 25 selected youth is set to leave for Pune on 24 October. Many of them are leaving home for the first time, with a stable job waiting for them.
A first job is also a place to learn. Working in a reputed company gives young people exposure to professional workplaces. They learn new technical skills, discipline, teamwork and punctuality, and these skills stay with them throughout their careers. As they gain experience, they become better able to support their families financially and to grow into more senior roles.
This approach matches the wider work of RIT Foundation in education and skill development. The Foundation has supported more than 7,500 students across over 100 educational institutes and has upskilled over 3,500 people through its Community Resource Centres. Its programmes now reach more than 500 villages in over 11 states.
Parents and guardians of selected candidates have taken part in the events and shared their confidence in the initiative. This trust is a key reason the fairs continue to draw strong participation. Many young people have also been asking when the next fair will be held, which shows how high the demand is.
Further Rozgar Melas are planned. The aim is to reach more young people in the region, bring more employers to the area, and support selected candidates until they join their jobs. Rit Foundation invites companies, training institutions and well-wishers to partner in this work.
